Hótel Saga, Reykjavík

The Hótel Saga, located in Hagatorg, is shown briefly when Stewart delivers his car and meets Elíns brother Bjarni, before taking a taxi and arriving at the apartment in Lynghagi, Reykjavík.

Externally the Hótel Saga is very much unchanged, operating under the brand name Radisson Blu Saga Hotel it is now part of the Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group. The hotel was built in 1962 and was renovated in 2007; it has 209 guest rooms including 8 junior suites and a presidential suite. There are 9 meeting rooms capable of seating up to 400 people.

The copper statue situated on the roundabout outside the Hótel Saga was commissioned in 1969 to celebrate the 25th year of the Republic, but not completed until 1972-73. The sculptor was Sigurjón Ólafsson, the title Íslandsmerki / Emblem of Iceland. The full title of the work is ‘Monument for the establishment of the Republic of Iceland in 1944’. [1]
